(Bloomberg) — Democratic leaders and the White House are close to an agreement for as much as $450 billion to top a loan program aimed at helping small businesses stay afloat and provide funds for hospitals and coronavirus testing.
“We have a good chance of getting a deal,” President Donald Trump said Sunday evening at a White House press briefing, mentioning both the small-business element and “helping our hospitals,” including in rural areas.
“A lot of good work has been going on. We could have an answer tomorrow,” Trump said.
Earlier, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that he’s hopeful the deal can be passed in the Senate on Monday and the House on Tuesday. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said the chamber could meet as early as Wednesday morning.
